Iceberg Quartzite Kitchen Island with Two Large Mitered Slabs and Enlarged Edge

This slab was formed from quartz-rich sandstone altered by a natural process of heat, pressure, and chemical activity of metamorphism. Quartzite is ideal for any countertop surface due to its durability, strength, and exotic character.

Most slabs of stone are sold at 1.25 inches but the extra thickness here was by design. The entire edge was mitered at a 45 degree angle and small pieces were added to exaggerate the thickness of the stone. The mitering played a key part in disguising the seam that it would be difficult to notice. The much more dominant seam in the center is a much more powerful expression of natural stone slabs and supports this deception.

A waterfall is a large slab overhanging the edge of a countertop and helps extend the size of the stone to be much more impressive. This is not always possible but in this situation there was enough material on the slabs for this project for this design. These features amounted to a very luxurious aesthetic.
